Book Abstract: "James Baldwin: In the Full Light"

This book-in-progress about race and love in the life and work of James Baldwin includes the first account of his collaboration with French painter Yoran Cazac. It deepens and complicates our understanding of one of the twentieth century's most important writers, particularly his years spent at his adopted home in Saint Paul-de-Vence in the south of France, where he died in 1987. His intimate friendship with Cazac, which inspired much of his later work, is an essential but overlooked part of this story.
