Photographer Franck Gérard was born in Poitiers, France, in 1972 and graduated from the Ecole supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Nantes. Through his photographs, he seeks to capture the unusual, the incongruous, and the wondrous of reality. In 2013, the artist was commissioned to create the series Manifester En l’Etat by the Ministry of Culture, in Marseille. Among other venues, his work has been exhibited at Lieu Unique in Nantes, at Domaine de Kerguéhennec, Morbihan, at Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris, at Centre Georges Pompidou-Metz, and at Rencontres d’Arles.

This project, initiated in 2018 as part of the residency program Les Calanques, territoire de sciences, source d'inspiration, proposes a photographic inventory of the areas of friction that exist within the National Park of Calanques, between the city and nature, and then of the Park's users (hikers, inhabitants or scientists). The project is developed through walking and observation of the landscape. Each evening, Frank Gérard wrote a residence journal recounting his experiences. What he proposed was an investigation, a reflection on re-establishing the connections that unite us with nature, especially with this idyllic place.

Franck Gérard was in residence at the Camargo Foundation in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
