Mission

The Camargo Foundation, overlooking the Mediterranean in Cassis, France, offers a contemplative environment fostering inquiry, creativity, research, experimentation, and collaboration in the arts and humanities. The Foundation welcomes artists, scholars, and thinkers from across the world through its residency programs, and in partnership with select international cultural programs. It supports interdisciplinary exchange in a buoyant spirit of freedom of expression, creativity, and collegiality.

Vision

The Camargo Foundation, with a history of over 50 years of support for forward-looking work in the arts and humanities, aspires anew to be a catalyst for innovative work and fresh understanding across divisions in a changing world.

Values

The Camargo Foundation, founded in 1967 by American artist Jerome Hill (1905-1972), is faithful to the spirit of creativity, freedom of expression, and experimentation that he envisioned. Camargo is committed to providing time and space for inquiry, to create and to connect, free from obligations or expectation of outcome.  Camargo supports interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue beyond established boundaries of artistic disciplines and academic fields, and is international at its core. Its residency programs are open to artists and scholars from all countries and nationalities. Camargo is inclusive and steadfast in supporting equality and diversity.
