Programs

The Camargo Foundation’s pluralistic approach prioritizes artistic freedom and intellectual discourse. The Camargo Foundation experiments with various ways of developing residencies and public programs that support adventurous, collaborative art making, and rigorous dialogue on the pressing issues of our time.

The Camargo Foundation’s site embodies many of the questions that must be addressed if we are to invent new ways of living together on our planet. The Camargo Foundation invites inquiry about the ways we live during a period of rapid climate change. Adjacent to the Mediterranean sea, which has witnessed the development and conflict of many ideas and cultures, it is a place where local issues have global meaning.

Escales

Escales residencies offer artists, scholars and thinkers time and space to work on their project without production expectations or obligations. This creates an environment conducive to intellectual exploration and creative experimentation, fostering an atmosphere of support and stimulation for the residents' projects and ideas.

Incubateurs

Incubateurs residencies welcome collaborative teams that mix artists, scholars, and thinkers. Being in residence together in a site dedicated to experimentation and exchange allows for in-depth dialogues that spark new perspectives and ideas.

Horizons

About every two years, the Horizons residencies invite scholars, thinkers and artists with complementary practices and knowledge to come together to work on specific themes related to our way of inhabiting the world. Each edition is an opportunity to forge collaborations and initiate exchanges between residents whose research work intersects and informs one another.

Au long cours

This programme provides support for creative artists over a period of several years. An artist or scholar is invited to create a work inspired by the region and to share it with the public. This accompaniment over several years (3 years or more) allows the research, wandering, testing and experimentation necessary for the emergence of new ways of creating and new forms.

Impromptus

The Impromptus residencies offer artists, scholars and thinkers from all over the world the opportunity to take up residency at the Fondation Camargo on a one-off basis. Even as it seeks to support innovation by the residents we support, the Camargo Foundation seeks to be an institution that is itself innovative, welcoming new ideas and new ways of working. Camargo is also committed to welcoming people in emergencies, including artists in exile.
