Hélène Quiniou is a philosopher, anthropologist and translator. For her dissertation at Columbia University in New York, she has received numerous awards, including from the Social Science Research Council and the National Science Foundation. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, Germany. Her second book project focuses on the new role of images and affects in trials for terrorism. Drawing from art historical debates on the — of text and image, it argues for the importance of shifting media technologies for the complex participatory practices through which judicial images are given meaning and made conversational both inside and outside the courtroom.

Postmetropolitan Trauma: A Revised History of the Present
At Camargo, Hélène Quiniou will work on her first monograph, Postmetropolitan Trauma: A Revised History of the Present. The book weaves together ethnographic and archival research surrounding the trials of the 2015 Paris attacks to demonstrate that original ideas about the sociogenesis of war neuroses first developed during the Algerian War of Independence provided the foundation for the contemporary infrastructure for terror compensation. Postcolonial Trauma thus develops an epistemological framework of relationality to examine the aftereffects of colonialism
