Dong Li has been working on a China-themed quintet that focuses on the struggles of families and individuals through drastic political changes in the People’s Republic of China. By telling their stories in lyric and hybrid forms, the quintet reveals the real feel of difficult times that is not unlike our own. These stories are essentially songs and prayers, whose poetry restores dignity and beauty for those who cannot speak and yet have participated in an incredible time in history.
