Listen to the crazy lady

"At a time when we no longer count the signals of natural, political, and economic disasters, the political immobilism brings me back to the tragedy of May 8, 1902 in St Pierre de la Martinique. On that day, the volcano eruption killed 28,000 people. Such a tragedy would not have occured if the public authorities had chosen to evacuate the city.

I want to tell the story of how and why one family escaped death by choosing exile, despite the recommendations of elected officials. I want to cross this story with that of Cyparis, the miraculous of St Pierre, which was reduced to sensationalism after being freed from the dungeon that saved his life."

Raphaële Frier is in residence at Camargo from November 27 to December 15, 2020.
